manic street preachers originally gained a loyal following and cult status with their combination of androgynous glam punk imagery, outspoken invective and songs about alienation, boredom and despair. the bands later albums retained a leftist politicization and intellectual lyrical style, while adopting a broader alternative rock sound, especially after the mysterious disappearance of lyricist and rhythm guitarist richey edwards in 1995. >everything must go< is the manics fourth album and was released in 1996, now back on 180 gram audiophile vinyl.

for this second release the new parisian label street knowledge choose to produce two young native italians djs. peter jd and francys met in a small city in the south of italy, both evolving on the music scene since they are 14. peter is bringing the detroit house music touch whereas francys the 80s 90s music sound. from this collaboration is born the connection ep. where two different worlds find each other in a common space, connection ep brings different ideas of sound at the same time, by one side following a dry techno line with pumping drums and solid grooves, by the other side warmer and deeper, crossing hypnotic detroit flavored synths, chicago house, organic elements and chromatic female vocals. to make this release totally international jenifa mayanja from connecticut and the greek quell are delivering two remixes that should make a bomb effect on all the dance floors.

in 1984, steve perry recorded his debut solo album street talk while his band journey was on a break. a tribute to his former band alien project, the album brought forth the hits >oh sherrie< and >foolish heart< and would eventually receive a double platinum status.

19 rupert street was the house in glasgow where scottish folk singer alex campbell lived and this is where sandy denny recorded these songs. recorded on a home tape machine they showcase denny in a relaxed atmosphere singing with acoustic guitar, and occasionally joined by campbell.

a collection of rare and very sought-after underground british disco, funk and soul tracks avoiding the obvious hits that have been on a million cdÆs already. many of these tracks never went beyond a very small local release but have since become very collectable - buying this lot would set you back somewhere in the four figures.
back street brit funk is the latest compilation from dave lee aka joey negro released on the z records label. the double disc album features highly collectable tracks from the late 70s through to the mid-80s with sleeve notes from soul weekender veteran mark webster.

sometimes i feel is superb combination of solid percussion, filtered house backdrops of melodic synths chords and bumping bass, and a strong female vocal, making this a surefire peaktime pleaser. pick of the 3 takes here is the wild pitch vocal version, a stellar floor burner with some great added string arrangements alongside thumping house beats, a bumping bassline, and champagnes anthemic vocal track.

justin berkovi released this dark and fast pounding techno 4-tracker under his btrax moniker on pro-jex in 2003.

its been a hot minute since we dropped an official street bass release, but the wait has definitely been worth it. this ep is a preview of the heat that will be the >street bass anthems volume 4< mixtape, hitting on cd and digital this fall.
for those uninitiated, street bass is what starkey and dev79 have coined for their unique interpretation of bass heavy urban music. the first three volumes of the mixtape series (and the associated singles) have been runaway successes in the clubs, on the streets, and with the press!
